It seems like it has never been harder to pastor. Across the globe, churches are struggling, pastors are burnt out, congregants are overwhelmed, and life has become busier, louder, and more chaotic than ever. The pressures of ministry can make prayer feel difficult, blessing a challenge, evangelism a stretch, and discipleship out of reach. Pressure builds until pain grows.
But, like the olive, when we are pressed we can anoint the world with more of His presence. By resourcing the NEI district with the implementation of the Cycle of Resurgence and its four pillars, we long to see greater life, greater energy, greater joy, greater participation, and greater capacity to lead others to Jesus within your church.
“Resurgence” means a renewing of life, a revival, a rising again into life, activity, or prominence. It is time for your church to rise again into life, to fresh anointing, to a new prominence borne out of God’s love, compassion, and mercy. Our CoRE team exists to help you see that happen.
We’ve put together resources and cohorts carefully designed to assist your resurgence. It is our prayer and mission that your church experiences fresh vision, new life, and revival.
What is the Cycle of Resurgence?
The Church of the Nazarene has unveiled a 4-step cycle intended to bring revitalization, renewal, and resurgence to churches across the globe.
This cycle was set into motion by a call to prayer in 2023, seeking God’s wisdom and empowerment as we work to unify the Church. This year, 2024, the Church has been called to BLESSING OUR COMMUNITY in outreach through love and service. In 2025, the Church will be called to the work of BRINGING PEOPLE TO JESUS through evangelism as we narrate God’s story to the lost. In 2026, the Church will be called to BECOMING CHRISTLIKE DISCIPLES through discipleship, learning how we order our lives around Jesus.
THE FOUR PILLARS OF RESURGENCE
There are four foundational pillars to be implemented in the Cycle of Resurgence. On the NEI CoRE team, a director has been assigned for each pillar, overseeing for their pillar the provision of resources, the implementation of systems/processes, and the administration of cohorts for the district.
PRAYER
Through deepening prayer habits, churches grow their impact through closeness with God’s heart and a greater capacity to embody His love, & our hearts and minds grow the roots of resurgence.
OUTREACH
Through outreach, our churches share the love of God without expectation or condition. Building trust, connectivity, and mutual respect in our communities helps us lay a foundation for resurgence.
EVANGELISM
Through Evangelism, churches share the story of Christ’s love and redemptive power. Building on the foundation of trust in our communities, we are able to share the Gospel and see resurgence.
DISCIPLESHIP
Through Discipleship, we order our lives around Jesus, growing in intimacy with the Holy Spirit. When we are walking in the power and presence of Jesus Christ, the natural overflow is resurgence.
